1. Sweet Simplicity
Scandinavian design is known for its simplicity and natural elements. Think pale, neutral colours with white, grey and wood accents. Add some pops of black and red for contrast and of course lots of rich, winter greenery. For a true Nordic Christmas, a real tree is a must. Try standing yours in a wicker, rattan or seagrass basket for that beautiful rustic feel.
2. Candlelight Makes Things Cozy
Candlelight creates that lovey, warm, relaxed atmosphere no matter what season you’re in. So Christmas should have even more than usual! Add a mixture of large, simple pillar candles and tealights in rustic glass holders all around your room for that warm glow. You could even swap some of the candles for mason jars containing small LED fairy lights for a gorgeous contemporary feel.
3. Paper Decorations
Get your scissors at the ready. Fill blank walls or bare windows with elegant paper snowflakes and pom poms for the holiday season. Don’t want to cut out your own? We have a lovely selection of paper decorations available.
4. Create a Christmas Window
Nearly every Scandinavian home will have lights in their windows. Create your own beautiful window display to brighten up the dark season with a collection of delicate snowflake window stickers, beautiful hanging paper stars, soft lights or a natural Christmas wreath.
5. The Festive Table
Whether or not you are hosting get-togethers over the festive period, creating a Christmas dining table is a fantastic way to get into the holiday spirit. Simple tablecovers work best with the emphasis on a lovely, natural centrepiece. Use rustic place cards to direct guests to the correct seat and add a touch of shine with delicate glassware and hexagonal mirror plates.
6. A Scandinavian Feast
Give your Christmas dinner a little twist this year and have a go at some Scandinavian Christmas recipes. Filled with wintry flavours like cardamom, cinnamon, mustard and dill, they are sure to warm from within. Think comfort food for the soul! If you're having guests round make sure you have a tin full of festive biscuits at the ready.
7. How to Hygge
A Danish concept with no direct English translation, hygge (pronounced 'huu-gga’) combines cosiness, security and simplicity. Bring a little hygge into your own home with lots of soft blankets for friends and family to snuggle up in. A unique idea as a party favour or gift for guests to remember your evening is a hygge box. Take a simple cardboard box with a definition of hygge taped onto the inside and fill with a selection of gifts. Candles, warm, fluffy socks, biscuits and hot chocolate would work really well!
8. Garlands Galore
Garlands and bunting look amazing in the home. Hang them up however you like! Mix natural foliage garlands with wooden bunting and add a touch of rose gold for that extra shimmer and shine. If you love Christmas crafts, have a go at making your own salt dough and cinnamon garland to add some homespun festivity to the room.
9. Get Everyone Together
Christmas is all about getting everyone together. So invite friends and family round for an evening of food, drink and festive games. Why not have everyone cook a meal together, host a Christmas movie night or if you're feeling brave, don your warmest clothes and go on a winter walk with all of your favourite people. Make the most of these special times together, so have fun and make memories!
